A regional plan of action for improving the outlook for Caribbean coral reefs was launched at the Ministerial Council meeting of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) on 23 May 2014.
With 16 objectives grouped under 4 high-level goals , the Coral Reef Plan of Action provides the Caribbean with a roadmap for navigating the challenges of sustainably managing coral reefs for their biological diversity, and to help ensure they remain sources of ecosystem goods and services for the benefit of communities and economies throughout the region.
Produced under the Australia Caribbean Coral Reef Collaboration, the plan was developed by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in collaboration with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre and over 70 Caribbean leaders, officials and technical experts. Implementation is being coordinated by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), providing strong regional leadership to this important issue.
